Frequently Asked Questions & General Information

HOW DOES A DEPOSIT WORK/IS IT REFUNDABLE?

Deposits are non-refundable. If you wish to move your deposit to a future litter, that option is available to you. When a deposit is placed, you get the next available, consecutive spot in line for whichever gender you would like. Deposits are typically $500.00 CAD.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Mission, BC, Canada.

We are approximately an hour (75km) outside of Vancouver, BC, approximately 4 hours (340km) away from the central Okanagan, and approximately 3.5-4 hours (150+km) away from the main ferry ports on Vancouver Island.

DO YOU SHIP?

We can ship a puppy, provided that the buyer sets up and funds the flight, as well as all required veterinarian examinations for the flight.

DO YOU SELL BREEDING RIGHTS?

Puppies with breeding rights go to vetted homes/kennels only. Breeding rights come at an extra cost. All of my puppies come with a strict, non-breeding contract to eliminate unethical breeding, as well as inbreeding due to a small gene pool here in BC. It is highly likely that another Rat Terrier and, even more so, another ODT, is related to mine. Breeding two untested dogs who are too closely related could result in genetic and physical issues in the puppy. I am very picky with who my breeding stock goes to. If you are interested in purchasing a breeding female or male, please let me know first and foremost.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DECKER TERRIER AND OLD DOMINION TERRIER?

The Decker Terrier is a name for the larger breed adapted by Milton Decker from the Rat Terrier. The Decker was eventually lumped into the Rat Terrier breed. This meant they were only able to be bred to the smaller Rat Terrier, where original genetics were bottlenecked by the smaller breeds found in the Rat Terrier.

There are very few of Milton’s original lineage left. In order to preserve the breed and take them out of the Rat Terrier name, a project began to take the original 52 Decker Terriers (You will find some of these in each of my dog’s pedigrees) and outcross them to two of the foundation breeds - Basenji and American Staffordshire Terrier. This helps to to provide new bloodlines, while also staying true to the Decker stature and temperament.

WHEN ARE PUPPIES READY TO GO?

Puppies are ready to join their new families when they are 8 weeks old.

CAN WE MEET THE PUPPIES TO PICK?

Unfortunately not. I will take pictures and describe personalities/traits and help to choose the best fit for your lifestyle, but I won’t be able to have buyers come to my home to pick out their new puppy. There are several reasons for this, the main one being that I have 7 children and prefer as much privacy as possible. I try my best not to invite too many people into my home, but will accommodate my buyers to the best of my ability.
