Our Story

In 2015, I met my first Rat Terrier. She was an unregistered puppy from registered parents. I didn’t know what to expect, having only been exposed to the Jack Russell as a child. Oggy surprised me in many ways.

What I learned is that the Rat Terrier is much different than what I expected a small terrier to be. As I got to know her and the breed, a passion grew inside me to breed these amazing dogs, and bring more into Canada. Having only been recognized by the CKC in 2014, this breed is considered rare. As I continued my search for the perfect breed standard, I found my choices lacking. With tons of Rat Terriers coming out with improper bite, apple heads and short legs, I wanted to find the Rat Terrier that was appealing to the eye and athletic in build, as well as adaptable and loving, just like my Oggy. 7 years later, my Mission has become more clear.

When I found Oggy, it opened up an entirely new world for me as a dog owner. I started to narrow down the dogs I wanted to breed. This meant a sturdy dog of medium size with an erect, strong ear set, long legs and a nice tucked mid section. As for personality, I was looking for a calm, loyal disposition, able to adapt to any lifestyle, with enough energy to keep up with adventure. The vermin hunting drive was an asset as well.

Rat Terriers tend to be individuals as much as they tend to be your best friend. When I started researching the Decker Terrier, I came across the mission to resurrect the breed and create a new platform for this wonderful adaptation - The Old Dominion Terrier. With the Basenji added into the bloodline, their size was determined with an athletic build and strong personality. The American Staffordshire added biddability as well as girth and strength. I beheld the perfect dog.

I finally put a deposit on my first two Decker Terriers in 2020. This long awaited dream was coming to fruition. When they arrived, they surprised me at every turn. Wonderful with kids, excellent hunting skills, quiet when necessary, adaptable, loveable, I could go on. This rare breed has my heart and I want nothing more than to expand and share them.
